Visit the Museum of Transportation: While not everyone is into transportation, the Museum of Transportation is a great place to take people of all ages. The museum houses over 70 locomotives, with cars, historical vehicles, and displays and events also available. Admission is $8 for adults and $5 for children, and groups are let in 6 at a time. Visitors can see the automobile collection, the world’s largest working locomotive, locomotive displays, Civil War transportation, and more.

See History: There is a lot of history in St. Louis, and one of the easiest places to see it is at the Ulysses S. Grant Historical Site in South county. The site is a former plantation owned by Ulysses S. Grant and his wife, where they lived for 5 years, and it was the childhood home of his wife. Anyone who loves history, or families looking to teach their kids about the Civil War can enjoy a trip to the site The Oakland House, Henry A. Wagener Home, Ulysses S. Grants Cabin, Ten Mile House, and Gravois Road are also all open for visits.

Go to the Park: If you enjoy going to the park then South STL county is quite possibly the best place in the world to do it. The more then 40 parks in South St. Louis area range from dog and children’s parks to larger ones including Missouri State Parks Babler, Castlewood, and the Route 66 State Park. Visitors can also go to the Big Muddy Fish and National Wildlife Refuge although not all of it is in South St. Louis County.

Laumeier Sculpture Park: Another great thing to do in South St. Louis County is to visit the Laumeier sculpture park. The park covers 105 acres of land and features over 60 outdoor sculptures, walking trail, indoor gallery, an 1816 Tudor mansion, and educational programs for children and adults. Alexander Liberman’s ‘The Way’ sculpture is usually considered the parks signature sculpture.
